Hello, and welcome to Air Hockey Zone! Let’s get to know one another. My name is Derik Robertson, and I’d like to thank you for taking the time to visit my website. I’m a long-time air hockey aficionado, and my basement “man cave” is full of all sorts of classic games. After playing these exciting tabletop games while I was growing up, I’ve enjoyed sharing my passion for gaming with my kids. They even have their own air hockey table.
I decided to create this website so that I can spread the word and share these fantastic tabletop games with others! I get so much enjoyment from playing fast-paced games like air hockey, bubble hockey, foosball, and ping pong. It’s a fun and unique way to bond with my kids and friends.
The game of air hockey is both mental and physical. It’s a great way to build skills like strategy-making, agility, and hand-eye coordination. I love finding entertaining ways to stay active, and air hockey is the perfect game for players of all ages.
What is Air Hockey?
Air hockey is a fast-paced tabletop game that’s commonly described as a combination of hockey and foosball. Most styles of air hockey tables are designed for two players. However, there are also four-player air hockey tables available.
In general, casual-use air hockey tables typically measure 6 feet long by 4 feet wide, and professional air hockey tables are 8 feet by 6 feet. The waist-high table has a smooth surface perforated by tiny holes that pump out air currents. The airflow suspends a round plastic puck slightly above the table’s surface, which is often painted with red and blue lines to resemble an ice hockey rink.
Game play usually involves a combination of direct shots and using the table’s raised sides to make bank shots and rail shots. Players use a plastic striker or mallet to strike the puck back and forth. Points are scored when one player shoots the puck into their opponent’s goal. In professional air hockey tournaments, the winning score is 7.
Why did I create Air Hockey Zone?
Air hockey was first developed in the 1960s. Once video games started gaining popularity in the ‘70s and ‘80s, tabletop games like air hockey went out of style for a while. Thankfully, the game made a comeback in 1985 when Dynamo launched its line of high-quality, tournament-style air hockey tables and has been a classic game for arcades and home use ever since.
